Cyan Holdings plc (AIM:CYAN.L), the integrated system and software design company delivering mesh based flexible wireless solutions for utility metering and lighting control today announces that smart metering industry expert Geoff Sarney has been appointed as VP Strategy.
Mr. Sarney joins Cyan from Telefonica/O2 where he was Head of Smart Metering/Smart Architecture. In this role, he led Telefonica's Smart Metering Implementation Program as well as building partnerships through the Smart Architecture Alliance Program. Mr. Sarney was a regular presenter at Smart Metering events on behalf of Telefonica and is widely recognised as an industry expert in this domain.
Prior to Telefonica, Mr. Sarney worked for a two year period in China on strategy, clean energy and the smart grid (for China).
From 2001 to 2008, Mr. Sarney worked for Siemens, including three years as Head of M&A, Strategy and Planning for Siemens Energy Services, where he led the smart grid initiative on a global basis.
"We are delighted that Geoff has accepted a senior management position at Cyan" said John Cronin, Executive Chairman. "Geoff is a recognised expert on smart metering and the smart grid on an international basis. He has very broad experience in smart metering and will be instrumental in building out Cyan's network of partnerships. He has experience in China and can speak Mandarin, and will thus also be a considerable asset to Cyan as we deepen our commercial engagements in both lighting and metering in China. In order to ensure that we were in a financial position to attract such a qualified individual we have made adjustments to the operational base of the company. The fact that an individual with the pedigree and experience of Geoff decided to join Cyan at this time speaks volumes about the quality of the Cyan mesh based solutions as well as the commercial opportunities that lay ahead."
Geoff Sarney commented, "I am excited to be joining Cyan at a time when the long investment in the commercial opportunities in India triggers a transformation in terms of customer, market and shareholder perception. We will be building on this base to create a world class, multi-national business at Cyan with a complete service and software offering as well as a network of partnerships. At the same time, I am looking forward to assisting Cyan with their business development in China of both lighting and metering solutions."
Geoff has done a number of presentations on smart grid such as the one below.
