TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Close Brothers Group plc (the 'Company') announces that on 6 January 2010 it transferred 3,060 ordinary shares of 25 pence each from treasury to participants in its employee share plans. The transfer price was 540 pence.

Following the transfer of these shares, the Company holds 5,135,594 of its ordinary shares in treasury and has 144,493,693 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
