[riddler] 4th Feb report (SBS)

that i put link to on page 5 on here, which at the bottom may explain who migh be responsible for the large trades over last 30 days ( click on SBS trades button)

SBS could be set for a more prosperous year

Life on the stock market is far from easy, but in the case of one particular medical company it has been particularly arduous. Yet, after years of underperforming, fully listed SourceBioscience (SBS) may at last be about to turn the corner.

Formerly known as Medical Solutions, SBS has, over the years, promised much and delivered precious little in terms of returns for shareholders. Indeed, its share price currently just south of 6p probably deters investors from taking a closer look, along with the fact that it sits in a sector that consists of a number of biotech stragglers.

However, that is perhaps unfair and does the company something of an injustice, as its business is not centred around developing potential blockbusting drugs. Far from it, SBS is best described as a diagnostic and genetic analysis business that serves the likes of the NHS, along with private health providers and significant research programmes.

By providing services such as histopathology, whereby it examines biopsies and other surgical specimens, the company is generating some serious revenues. These are complemented by a growing presence in the life sciences arena where SBS is now one of the leading European providers of DNA sequencing and genome services.

Add to this a third arm which supports drug developers in trial processes, and the company clearly has potential for future growth.

However, when it comes to investing, shareholders or potential investors are eager to see evidence of profit and subsequent returns, something that thus far has been lacking at SBS, and which is clearly responsible for the poor performance of the share price, which over the last 12 months peaked at only just over 8p.

That said, I remain stirred by this player, which has seen a little nibbling from buyers in recent weeks and looks far from expensive with a market cap of less than £12m.

Sales have been growing steadily in recent years, bolstered by some timely and suitable acquisitions, while the all important maiden pre-tax profit has also been delivered.

And it is here where the tide may now be turning and see SBS take on a healthier look as expectations are for a significant increase in the next set of prelims and beyond.

Both Charles Stanley and Singer Capital have pencilled in £1m pre-tax profits for 2012 and, given recent developments, could even see that improved upon. Revenue over its last reported quarter showed ongoing growth with its life sciences division in particular putting in an excellent performance. Additionally, the board has recently taken the decision to buy its large premises, which will drive down costs in the medium to longer term.

A number of institutions continue to hold patiently here, and with dece

You seem to misunderstand the relevance of the RNS, so I'll repost the relevan paragraph.
The company has put ITSELF up for grabs, it has NOT had an offer, it is looking at options and selling the company is one of them.
Read the following.

'Pursuant to the announcement made by the Company on 30 January 2012 the Board confirms that it is continuing its review of strategic options. At this stage, all options available to the Company are being considered including the sale of the Company. There is, however, no certainty that the strategic review will result in an offer being made for the Company, nor as to the terms on which any offer might be made. For the purposes of the Takeover Code the announcement on 30 January 2012 commenced an offer period in respect of the Company.'

Buy in if you wish, but at least understand what you are buying !

February 3, 2012

Listen to the Story
Talk of the Nation

February 3, 2012 Amyloid plaques and tangles of protein in the brain are two of the key signs of the form of dementia known as Alzheimer's disease. In new work reported in the journal PLOS One, researchers tracked the spread of tangles of tau protein from neuron to neuron in the brains of mice. Study co-author Karen Duff of the Columbia University Medical Center discusses the findings.

[riddler] well (HTIG)

now back to HTIG, shall we ow that he,s got all that off his chest.

1, there were clear reasons NOT to buy HTIG in 2010/11 due to cost overruns, lack of contracts etc, hence why i POSTED on here in early 2011 but DIDN,T buy.

2, The bottom of the Sept results from 2011 showed BOD were cnfident that their efforts in brazi, middle east, africa etc would bring new contracts for spet 2011 - sept 2012................................the share price was 1.2p/market cap £1.5mln so i decided that it was a decent turn around story.

3. they then announced 2 new contracts for SIGNIFICANTLY more than 15mlnEUR ( with EUR/£ = 0.81) that equates toSIGNFICANTLY more than £12mln, but could be as high as £15mln-£20mln.

4, They then took away any funding uncertainty in Nov 2011 with £1.7mln fund raise ( over subscribed) @ 1.5p to allow them to tender for NEW contracts targetting p[rojects of 5EURmln of more.

5. I have been buying @ 1.2p-1.5p over 3mths, and if i had of sold/top sliced i would have said like i said on CARE ( 150%), PPS ( 35%), SUMM ( 30% sold @ 7p stop loss yesterday) etc.

i hope that clears things up, Luckyles is more than welcome to give balanced, contextual cautionary views but not ones that are now redundant ( i.e the funding "may" not have been accepeted which is a nonsensical arguement when it WAS passed in Dec 27th 2011!!, that no contract were won in the period when the period was relating to year END June...yes June 2011 !!! )

Do you know the price of heavy oil, do you know what oil companies and petroleum refinery are looking for? The oil xcite have is becoming very valuable.

If they are successful though the rewards for this high risk investment will be huge. I am onboard for the duration and am prepared to lose the current stake for the chance of being in at this price. Will be adding incrementally as and when things progress successfully.
I'm unsure of the exact difference between Reserves/Resources.

Macarthur has proved and probable recoverable reserves of 259m tonnes.
Gloucester has reserves of 275m tonnes.

So perhaps double Manas's figures if they also relate to recoverable reserves rather than resources.

As you can see, I'm still a newbie at this, perhaps someone better acquainted with these matters could shed more light?

Thanks for those links, interesting reading, particularly the Gloucester Coal and Macarthur Coal buyouts in the second Bloomberg link. I dug deeper and found them both to have resources of 1-2 billion tonnes, maybe 10x that of the whole (current) Manas holding, and they were bought/taken over, one for $2billion the other for $4billion. Both were developed/expanding and one had port facilities.

It was worth checking in order to help make a very rough comparison v. LDP.

These shares seem to have started life at about 90p in Jan 2010 going briefly up to 100p and then descending by December 2010 to about 12p when they suddenly spiked to 30p and then went down again to about 9.50 rising fairly recently to the current level. Can somebody please explain why they dived from 100p to 12p or so and why they spiked in Dec 10 to about double their price and then sank again. The company seems to have some good projects in hand and the recent partnership looks good. I have bought and sold and bought again first losing and now gaining. Just wondering about the history and what the future holds. Chatbeem, Spindok and Mulled Wine seem to follow this share quite closely and any comment would be appreciated..

Just got in and brought Poppy into the lounge for a few minutes while I scoff beer and crisps for supper or breakfast. Not going to be up long enough to warrant putting on the heating or the log burner, so plugged in an electric fan heater for a few minutes. She hates motor noises and went to the opposite corner of the room. Then she peaked around the furniture at the fire and felt the heat! I can see the temptation is there to lie on top of it or in front (dogs love warmth) but that is balanced by her fear of electric motors :O)

I can see how Pavlov started experimenting - such fun.

I think you've done a great job here, as it is advertising our situation to others that wouldn't know about it, which will hopefully gain us more publicity, buyers of the stock and more support to the SORT campaign. Plus as you say by signing the e-petition it will benefit all shareholders in the future.

Our cooperation on this BB is excellent and all ideas to further our cause our welcome as long as we stay focused!

Thanks ALL SORTS. Stay UNITED

ive built quite a large % of my portfolio here based on my own reseach as well as you're fantastic insights on the company. What I would like to know is, at which point you see this maturing to the extent where you will exit?. I have my own exit price of around £1 but, with the resources, I fell it could go much higher (in time), clearly this this is crucial to whether it will be a mere exploration vs production company. I appreciate all the effort you have spilled in here which has reinforced my own belief this is a golden egg
