Concerns for Barclays plc share price as it breaks through resistance at 200p; technicals suggest further falls possible

An analysis of the Barclays plc (LON:BARC) share price, conducted by J Wong - analyst at Trading Central, shows that further declines are likely.

The suggestion comes in a 'Chart of the day' note to Trading Central clients, where Wong says:

"Barclays finally broke the key support at 200p yesterday. Worsening news from Europe, JP Morgan's rogue trade, and the general market sell-off all weighed on the stock.

"Technically, the stock is now in a clear short-term downtrend. Prices are beneath the 150-day moving average; its relative strength against FTSE100 is breaking to new short-term lows; and there is no credible sideways support until 160p.

"Sell would be the preferred stance here; stop at 210p."

aye, i got stuck i over the summer, bought in at 220 and then had to sit and wait as it plummeted down to 130 due to the unforeseen eurozone blow-up, but knowing that BARC would eventually come good i just had to wait and was able to sell at a decent profit in the spring... you'll make your profit embryo, but maybe not as soon as you'd like... wouldn't be surprised if this goes to below 130 this time as greece is looking a lot more terminal than 6 months ago, and spain is rumbling nastily

shorting is a bit of a luxury... you definitely need time and access to a computer while the markets ar open, averaging down is definitely less lucrative but ultimately a more stable investment model!

That's a fantastic purchase price, even if the price slides for the next few weeks, look at the underlying value of the stock you're buying. IMHO all of the european crisis was priced in already at 200p, everything below that is just emotion with people desperate to sell before it goes lower. I think it's a great time to buy and hold, and I'm averaging down as fast as I can. GL

[Mo2047] World stocks slip with euro

NEW YORK (Reuters) - World stocks declined and the euro fell to a four-month low against the dollar on Tuesday after Greece said it would hold new elections and worries increased about its possible exit from the euro zone.
Gold touched a 4-1/2-month low as the euro's weakness unnerved investors over the profitability of holding euro-denominated assets.
The turmoil in Greece kept pressure on markets. Investors have been concerned that long-lasting problems in the euro zone and a likely recession in Europe will hit global growth.
Greek politicians again failed to agree on a new government, nine days after an inconclusive election. After Greece's president said the country will hold new elections, the euro slumped and investors fled to the safe-haven dollar.
The Greek news "triggered the fall through $1.2800 and it looks like they can't compromise so they will have to hold elections," said Boris Schlossberg, director of FX Research at GFT in Jersey City, New Jersey.
"They are running out of money ahead of elections, so expect European leaders in the next few days to put enormous pressure on them to come up with a workable government along with some sort of extended schedule for the bailout."
The euro was last down 0.3 percent at $1.2786 with the session trough of $1.2769, the lowest since January 18.
The MSCI world equity index fell 0.3 percent, while the FTSE Eurofirst index of top European shares was down 0.7 percent.
U.S. stocks were little changed after a slight bounce early in the session from recent losses after positive economic data on regional manufacturing and national homebuilder sentiment.
A gauge of homebuilder sentiment rose to the highest in five years this month. Separately, the pace of growth in New York state manufacturing rebounded, the New York Federal Reserve said.
Data also showed U.S. retail sales rose 0.1 percent in April, coming in under expectations.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 30.27 points, or 0.24 percent, at 12,725.62. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 2.92 points, or 0.22 percent, at 1,341.27. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 16.56 points, or 0.57 percent, at 2,919.14.
Among other global economic news, Germany kept hopes for growth alive when it reported that strong exports had helped its economy grow 0.5 percent in the first three months of the year, ahead of market forecasts.
Germany's performance offset zero growth in France and recession in Italy and Spain, leaving the whole 17-member euro zone economy stagnating but not in recession.
Some of the optimism from the German GDP data was dispelled after a business survey by the ZEW Institute taken in the first two weeks of May showed a big dip in sentiment since the latest bout of political instability in Greece and the renewed concerns about Spain and Italy's banking systems.
The upbeat German data helped Brent crude price, with Brent June crude up 30 cents at $111.87 a barrel. The German data raised hopes that G

[Mo2047] Greece faces new elections

Debt-stricken Greece must hold fresh elections after talks on forming a new government broke up Tuesday without agreement, prolonging a tortuous crisis which has whiplashed the eurozone for years.
The new polls, expected on June 17, follow inconclusive elections on May 6 when a majority of Greeks voted against the austerity measures which Athens agreed to in return for a massive EU-IMF (Berlin: MXG1.BE - news) bailout late last year.
"We are going again towards elections, in a few days, under very bad conditions," socialist Pasok party leader Evangelos Venizelos said, regretting the fact that there was no accord.
"The Greek people must now make the right decisions for the good of the country," said Venizelos, who supported the EU-IMF deal in a technocrat government formed last November (Stuttgart: A0Z24E - news) .
Panos Kammenos, leader of the Greek Independents party, lashed out at those he claimed would betray the people and who "prefer the creditors to national unity."
A statement from the president's office read on state TV noted simply that efforts to form a government had failed and that he would hold talks Wednesday at 1000 GMT with all political parties on setting up a caretaker administration.
Five of the parties which won seats in the May 6 polls went into the talks to discuss a presidential plan for a technocrat government, aiming to resolve differences over the austerity measures included in the EU-IMF accord, the second after a smaller bailout in 2010 failed to solve the problem.
President Carolos Papoulias called the meeting after talks Monday with the conservative New Democracy, Pasok and radical Democratic Left parties failed to reach an accord on a coalition government.
He had suggested that in the absence of any other solution, a government of "distinguished and non-political figures" should be considered to break an impasse over the tough austerity measures agreed to in the EU-IMF bailout.
Forming such a government would have avoided new polls and helped ease strains over Greece's eurozone future but time was short as parliament was to convene Thursday and new polls had to be called if there was no government in place by then.
Also attending Tuesday's talks was the radical left Syriza, which came second on May 6 on its pledge to scrap the austerity policy, if not the whole EU-IMF deal.
The polls produced no clear winner and showed a majority of Greeks opposed to the austerity measures, which many feel make the problems worse, reflecting increasing calls across Europe (Chicago Options: ^REURUSD - news) that the focus needs to be on growth.

Do you want another £50 bet ? this time that Greece wont exit the euro and end up in Drachmas - But then of course what's the point with entering a wager with you - you never honour your bets to charity

Greece will go down within the next couple of weeks, that is why all these fall
this would purely creat an excellent chance for sharp buyers, because it would creat an first initial shock to the market, and of course all the hype around it, but soon people/anayst /expert see Greece is truly a small economy and the impact has already been priced into the market, nothing will happen when Greece get kick out, and I always said sooner the better
make sure you snach this once that happen

Barcs exposure to Spain is 6billion, so i have been told, thats on a total loss scenario. Cant see them getting bailed out, too clever chisellers for that.
