Fear the Reaper

Wed, 10th Feb 2010 - Author: Resident IFA

Hello again. You may have noticed that we removed the Personal Finance section from lse.co.uk. I thought this Blog section had gone too...but is seemingly the Blog that shall not die!

Hardly a source of worry, I am sure, but we will have separate Personal Finance developments for you in the future – hopefully this year.

Fear the Reaper. I have a sad tale for you today.

I attended a funeral on Saturday. This was for a man I had only known for 3 or 4 months. Of course, it has to be tragic in that he had a fantastic personality, reflected in 350+ people gathering to mourn his passing.

Even more tragic, however, are the facts that he was only 39 years of age, and left a young family behind. Of his 3 children, the youngest child is just 3 years old.

His Wife and children can count their blessings that he worked for a tremendous (and successful) family-run company for the last 16 years. The owner has vowed that the children will not suffer financially from the untimely death of their father.

How many people can count on their employer in this way? Answer: Next to none.

If this was not the case, they may be in financial dire straits. The deceased had no life insurance in place to look after his nearest and dearest.

Life Insurance is cheap, if accepted on standard terms by the provider. So, today’s Blog has a simple, if passionate, message. REVIEW YOUR LIFE COVER ARRANGEMENTS.

For the cost of a third of the monthly beloved Sky TV subscription, you can go a long way to avoiding financial hardship for a (young) family.

The man in this sad tale is actually quite lucky. The children can never quite replace their Dad, but he can sit on his cloud safe in the knowledge that he knew good people.

Why though, for Pete’s sake, take this chance? Until next time...
