Yes I would agree that it's not a done deal. I'm not sure the management team will take kindly to a couple of hedge funds telling them how to run the company for short term gain. Remember that the company has been successfully looking after it's shareholders with dividends for 275years. These dimwitted hedge fund managers just ride into town with guns blazing demanding a break up of the company. Most of them are about 12 years old. That's why most companies in the UK are now owned by foreign… Read More

suspect that od will fire a good reaction to this. feel the hotel side would stagnate without the coffee asset... certainly make it have to rethink its outlook. not saying that it's lame but i just feel the two together compliment each other... in fact, they could do with cross-marketing the hotels better... can't imagine anything more ubiquitous than costa coffee to promote the hotel chain too...

regardless, assume this interest is going to fluff up the sp... surprised to see sellers at… Read More

For Premier Inn the focus is on Germany and for Costa Coffee the focus is China".

In a preview of the full year figures due next Wednesday, Deutsche Bank said Whitbread was "one of the cheapest stocks" in the sector on a rating of circa 14.5 times earnings… Read More

In our view it is entirely logical that the two businesses be split at some point, as the natural end game to the unpicking of the conglomerate," Numis said, seeing a demerger as easiest to execute although trade sale would clearly crystallise a control premium, with Krispy Kreme and Caribou Coffee owner JAB seen as most likely trade buyer or a range of global consumer companies. "An IPO is unlikely, unless WTB wishes to generate cash for reinvestment such as in… Read More
