marine, have to agree. LSE forum is for the 'rainbow chasers' looking to trade on momentum which is usually driven by rumour rather than facts. I would guess a bit rich for some who hope to get rich on the back of hope. I hold MARS so read bb's in this sector to gauge sentiment and see if there is any news of interest.

folk on lse don't buy ftse shares?

odd that there's no comments added on this bb... maybe it's too rich for folks' blood?

i'm hoping that there's going to be 8-10% to trade on the highs and lows before any new info comes out...

just to get the ball roaming!

not really sure what this emotional heartstring twanging is meant to be about? the company is nothing like the brewery as was so even 20 years ago so it's, to all intents and purposes, a completely different/new company anyway.

the only thing that is the same is the name and i'm sure that will continue for as long as there's value in it.

it's just about a conversation piece for a lazy journalist but, when all's said and done, there are no national companies unless they're so tiny or impoverished as to be overlooked by intra-nationals.

it's a sign of their suceess with costa that someone wanted it for such big bucks... as such, i'm looking forward to a £50 p/s value by the end of the transaction.

Maybe a sad day but it makes me a bit happier for all my losses in this bull market I appear to have dodged with great stealth.

Think we're at the start of the end of Whitbread and its 300-year history.

They've sold off strong Costa and are left with commoditized Premier Inn and fading mid-level restaurants.

Expect the share price to drift for a few years and then the remaining Whitbread shell will get sold off abroad on the cheap to Hilton or similar.

Gonna be a sad end to a great old company.
