Can someone explain me a small thing? VTBR is traded on LSE at a little over 10 and many (including myself) consider this a strong buy. While the same bank has a price of $0,005 per their share within Russia, on RTS exchange. Is there something fundamentally different here? Why would I want to buy more expenside IPO rather than domestic stock? Same bank, same risks. I posted the same question here: http://www.investrusska.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=35&func=view&id=77&catid=23

Sberbank is tne sponsor, not VTB. VTB is government-supported bank. Do you remember the merger of Guta-bank (former VTB-24)? VTB is the state-owned monster like Gazprom or Rosneft.

credit is being reigned in; there have been lending at high interest rates there...the sub prime situation in the US has shaken confidence...many large banks were initially funded by the oil boom but as Nationalisation (in practise if not name) has occurred and high taxes imposed, profits/income has fallen, notwithstanding the soaring price of oil...this bank is not alone in Russia in finding profits falling...
