RE: DIVIDEND WITHHOLDING TAX
Today 17:53
Presumably, it is impossible to claim a refund if the shares are held in a nominee account?

Or an ISA?

Would any of the tax not be deducted at source if the shares are held in an ISA?

RE: DIVIDEND WITHHOLDING TAX
Today 07:41
I received the below advice from the german tax contact for foreign investors.

In summary, complete their form and get hmrc to confirm you are a uk resident. Return the form along with a certificate of tax from the dividend paying agent (I have approached Tui for this, but I suspect it is Deutche Bank AG who will have it). Oh, and a requirement is that youve held the shares 45 days prior to the pmt date.

Dear Mr.

Capital gains tax at 25% is charged on dividends and certain other investment income in Germany. Sales of participations or securities are not taxable for limited taxpayers.

If higher capital gains tax (including the solidarity supplement) than stipulated in the double taxation convention is charged in the deduction process, an application may be made for a refund of the difference.

Individuals and other non-capital companies can only apply for a refund of the capital gains tax.

The application must be made using the form > Claim for refund of German withholding taxes on dividends<. The tax authorities must certify that the applicant is resident in that country. The claim must be accompanied by a certificate of payment of the relevant German withholding tax (Kapitalertragsteuerbescheinigung).

The forms are available in German and English on http://www.bzst.de/EN/Home/home_node.html > International taxes > Capital gains tax relief > Requests From Abroad > Forms. The instructions are included in these files.

Please send the application completely filled and signed and a certificate of payment of the relevant German withholding tax to:

Bundeszentralamt für Steuern
Referat St III 3
53221 Bonn
Deutschland

I hope the information is helpful.

I haven't tried beetroot juice for many years.

I agree with you.

There may have been plenty of people who were saying TU shares represented good value at 1800 p, but now we hear that the sky is falling and that if you buy at 800 p, you're guaranteed to make a loss.

Taking a long - term view, if profits continue to rise, even if only by small margins, and the dividend remains stable, the share price is sure to recover.

I intend to buy more for 700 p, 600 p, 500 p and so on.

Not sure I will get the chance, though.

Happened with royal mail. CEO bought millions worth from £3.20 down , still ended up going down to 2.45 at one point. People maybe think, they get paid that much, it's only like an average punter putting a couple of grand in, so doesn't show that much commitment. End of the day the market decides the SP, sometimes ( seems most of the time these days) the SP becomes very disjointed from the true worth of the company. Markets are hitting bad results hard. Very hard. Hell they even hit results that are gonna be broadly the same as last yr and sometimes companies make more than last yr and the SP gets hit down because it's not as much more as someone forecast! It's all a big gamble but I would say £8 for a share that was £18 not so long ago is pretty good considering it's the largest travel firm in the world and profits aren't forecast to drop, just stay the same.......buy hold and wait a few months. If (and I can't believe we're not gonna) we get a Brexit deal it's all gonna come good. Maybe your rdsb or BHP shares will drop a bit on a stronger pound but this should rally. GL all.
