Well, here we go again. Some 310,000 of "sells" pop up after 16.30 today with times shown as earlier in the day but including 200,000 with a date of 16th May. Today is 20th. If I spreadsheet the buys and sells I get a rather different picture to the stats that show up, in my view. Hence my questions. It defies any straightforward logic, to me. Maybe the postings are wrong in which case which are wrong?
Realities of share trading
Thanks gearjoh. That was my only possible conclusion. I did wonder if the Ch,airman's buy was brought about by a call from a MM needing "some help". Yes there is obviously a lot that goes on behind the scenes. And the market itself cares little about fundamentals - until it is too late. I once asked a successful trader what made him so successful. He said he watched the curves and got on and got off. I asked what he meant by getting off. He said that if he owned something for more than five minutes he felt he had married it. This stuff has little to do with investing in the company. Long term investment is an oxymoron. The only strategy that makes sense for the company here is a cash raising rights issue, which can protect the working capital against the low margin supermarket sales and things like the pension deficit. A short term strategy that will buy time, improve the balance sheet while diluting shareholders, factually. It may push away for a while the criticality of where future real performance will come from. On say a £3m bottom line, the p/e must be above 25 now? Is it getting too expensive for someone to buy it, even? Must be getting vertigo!
Hi Rongone, someone who knows better please feel free to correct me, but i believe the MM's have a certain amount of control as to when larger trades get put through the system. I think its there way of manipulating the SP to suit them best. But just look at the share price now, 100p looks well on the cards! GL All
I don't understand the largish "sells" showing up at the ends of days, dated a couple of days prior. E.g. On 14th May there was 100,000 at 16.03.47 but with date 10 May. On 15th May there was 325,000 at 16.32.44 but with date13th May. Is this a glitch or how does this work? There was an earlier similar 100,000 sell but it disappeared off the schedule afterwards. Is this something "technical" ? Why the delays?
