Barratts stopped building timber framed houses a couple of decades ago - because it nearly sank the company. Bricks and mortar only now. The big bad wolf doesn't hang around barratts' houses anymore. Barratts have won many housing awards since... Read Fattyman below - quite enlightening.

The share price has increased steadily over the last three years and seems to show little sign of slowing. As for the quality of their product, I totally agree. They are the only volume housebuilder that doesn't have a 5 star rating and when you look at their product you can see why. Their timber framed houses, especially in the South are not as good as traditional built houses and they are preferred because of the cost and the speed of build, along with the fact that they own Space4 which produces the timber frames. What lets Persimmon down is their customer service; they may have less issues on a finished product than a Barratt Homes, but Barratt will throw everyting at a house to complete any snaggings, whilst Persimmon treat their customers very badly. Having worked in the housebuilding industry for more than a decade, Persimmon / Charles Church are definately one to aviod.
