And Alfa, don't forget that the grid cannot cope with must more ragged flow renewables (let alone for Electric Vehs... the cost benefit of localised VRB vs upgrading the national grid will make current VRB prices cost effective (it does now really).

It is not the absolute cost of the power (as measured by purchase, operational and lifetime costs), is the trade off with the alternatives as well

Jagadish - the world really doesn't have an alternative to VRFBs as far as I can see. 'Sustainable Energy without the Hot Air' p 192 suggests that if we are going to use renewables to a major extent we need energy storage on the levels of 1200GWh. THAT IS JUST FOR THE UK.

At present the UK has a total or around 25 GWh total coming from our 4 pumped storage sites,

I'm sure that you're right Alfacomp. It's worth bearing in mind, though, that if the price of a commodity rises there is an alternative to paying more , which is to find a cheaper alternative. However, my motivation in highlighting the paragraph is simply to add interesting ingredients to the mix and stimulate discussion.

I suppose its a good job to have a fully vertically integrated offering then. If you only supply the box and electrics you have to buy the electrolyte that has then two lots of profit already factored in (the mine and electrolyte plant). On top of that you then charge a profit of the system. Same thing happens in the food chain. Just look at say milk and what a farmer gets vs what we pay in a supermarket.
