UPDATE 1-Gulf Keystone rejects Excalibur Ventures' claims

Wed, 29th Dec 2010 08:00

LONDON, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Iraq-focused oil explorer Gulf Keystone Petrole
um said on Wednesday it would vigorously contest claims made by Excalibur Ventures over an interest of up to 30 percent in its blocks in Kurdistan, Northern Iraq.

The London-listed company said Excalibur had made claims against Gulf Keystone and two of its subsidiaries in London and New York.

A judge in London had refused an application by Excalibur for a worldwide freezing injunction against Gulf Keystone's assets, Gulf Keystone said.

Todd Kozel, Gulf Keystone's chairman and chief executive, said: 'We believe we have very good grounds to vigorously challenge these claims in both the US and UK courts.

'We are confident of being able to defeat these claims in any legal jurisdiction.'

Gulf Keystone holds Production Sharing Contracts for four exploration blocks in Kurdistan.
