Oligarch I partly agree that the BOD could be doing more. However is that not what huge chunks of the change agenda working with the CWU? Also we have lots of good highly qualified people coming up with ideas/suggestions and changes to existing products to make these better and more efficient and very importantly attractive to our customers.
I agree we are slow to deliver these and much more can be done. I also believe it is important to have contributions from those that know the most about delivery of services and products so contributions from the frontline can play a critical part.
You will recall that the business has had many schemes to try and encourage this and to share savings. How many offices were happy to run with vacancies/lapsed duties to ensure the regulars got overtime? What about was it WLA/IWM again schemes that shared payments with the teams.
So yes the BOD and management teams can do more and I am sure many others can support and help.
Re funding of course every change needs to have a form of benefit or they wouldn't be worth doing.
Re funding for pay deal as well as changes to T&C's we will need to factor in how much the business will save I am sure all can do the basic calculations. Lets say 4 more days are called after 2nd ballot 8 days x 100k on strike x 6 hours x £12 - £15 per hour - additional agency hours = a large chunk that could used to fund a % increased offer and buyouts for allowances etc which reduces future costs.
Of course the biggest element that tends to get lost in all of this "in fighting" is the customer" those that actually pay everyone's wages. What is the impact on them will they find alternatives, will we lose business?
Absolutely an individuals right to take what action they deem right for them but maybe playing right into someone else's hands. AIMO
Let’s try and keep this board factual and value add
Otherwise good posters leave - I learn quite a bit from the board. Each of us adds a different angle.
I really welcome detractors / negative comments iF sensible and not emotional
Thx
I would disagree. The BOD are probably under qualified and too out of touch with the company and how it actually works (not on paper) and possibly only got their position by just ticking the right boxes and saying the right (bs) things.
Wolves, Welcome back you were a strong member of the thin red line against the Trolls (I don't include posties as trolls) I'm sure the average postie put's in a decent day's work. I just believe that there are many factors in play currently and a strike doesn't enhance job security.
Now you have gone over to the dark side, I wonder if you will retain your previous sense of humour ;-)
I still find it bizarre that our highly skilled BoD (let's face it, none of them are there by ticking the wrong boxes or by being under qualified) are effectively asking the workforce to fund their own pay rise by giving up hard fought for terms and conditions instead of coming up with innovative ideas and solutions to raise the profitability of Royal Mail.
Isn't this what our illustrious leaders are paid to do?
@ Maximas.
WTF has a Manchester bus company got to do with RMG?
It doesn't make you the oracle for all things RMG?
So, you're a hero for some bus company employees?
Don't the things that you allude to have achieved, resonate slightly with what the CWU are trying to do?
OF course not! You're invested in RMG. Financially.
So, screw the blue-collar workers.
What's the word i'm looking for?
Oh yeah!. HYPOCRISY!
Do you really think the average posty cares about the share price, we care about our future and the future of all the people who will be employed in the future.
Correct,I find it amusing when a post doesn’t suit you alway revert to YOUR LYING..
I decided which union I wanted to work with.
It was me who decided I wanted a union in the work place due to employer bullying.
It was me who got everyone on board
It was me who did all the hard work taking on the employer who did not want a union in the work place.
It was me who took all the flack and lies from the employer.
It was me who brought a group of lads from nothing to full recognition in the work place in a record time which still stands in the uk today….6 months..
I will dig out the ref numbers which you can check on …on the gov web site with the full recognition details…
I was a postie at Stockport.
A union rep at a Manchester bus company.
Pop me your email by pm…I will send the details over.
Now not only do you sound like an idiot….you now look like an idiot.
One thing you should not do is try and be clever .
One problems I found with unions is they try to take over and don’t look at the overall picture, getting themselves pushed down a wrong road and carnt reverse out.
Glad iam now retired early.
@ Anger.
"""I received a 4.75% pay rise in April……do you think that covers the cost of living given it’s going close to 13% by the end of the year?""""
Absolutely not. But if you and your colleagues are happy to accept this, it is your choice. And it's still 140% higher than us posties. I wonder if our Simon had given us a pay rise in line with inflation, when it was asked for by the CWU, would we be striking soon? (Not including the upcoming result for the t's and c's ballot).
I think CPI was at 5.5% at the time. That is what i believe RMG base our pay increases on.
9% now!!!
Another great job there, Si.
@ DerekR.
As a PLC all employees, excluding white collar workers, are not allowed to have a voice.
We are meant to eat whatever sh*t is thrown our way, and be thankful that we have a job.
The majority on this board wouldn't last 6 months in a posties job.
Let's drag up the fiasco of paying VR to thousands of managers over the past 2 years. Only to be hiring managers again. As part of their dispute resolution process.
Who get's it in the neck? The lazy, militant postie.
Pathetically run.
The people who do the real work are shafted time and time again.
Almost every person considering striking won’t have more than £1k worth of shares. They don’t rely on dividend income or gains on share trades to pay to keep a roof over their head. I find it quite staggering how many “I’m alright jacks” there are on this forum telling people they should take a real terms pay cut of 5%+ to make sure this share doesn’t nose dive further. It’s no wonder this country is in the state it’s in.
anger you quote"The losses aren’t out of the question either when you consider the global economic situation. Inflation is at a 40 year high the cost of fuel and energy……" all we want is a fair deal mate and not 10-12%
@ Anger.
Adjusted operating loss of 92 million.
There is a difference to just losing 92 million.
anger they didnt make 92m disappear.... that figure for that period has always been low or loss making... they chose to put it against the previous two years when revenues were through the roof during covid....so lost 1m per day compared to previous years quarter..comparing apples with pears i think. does royal mail run a companies balance sheets on a one off event??? looks that way...remember mr thompson knew covid was going to come to an end when he awarded that dividend...now im not saying shareholders dont want or deserve dividends... but that 400 million was excessive being he didnt know what was going to happen the following year.......
@ wolvesposty.
I do. I have commitments to my family that will be taken away. Meaning it will cost them money for childcare.
I know this resonates with many working for RMG.
And regarding getting mugged? I had that same conversation today with someone who delivers to an affluent area.
It happens, and will only get worse.
anyway i do not hold shares anymore so not really right to post...but just wanted to put a truthful insight to the slight handed things the management do and are doing on a daily basis and making out that we are the problem... WE ARE NOT THE PROBLEM... WE ARE THE SOLUTION!!!!! good evening all
Ha ha wolves they are at least correct once a week then, so that's good. Seriously its always a big issue, communications.
thats why jb. if management tell me its wednesday. i go and buy a paper to see if its correct
isle in my view i have no problems delivering parcels anytime of the day or night... there will be loads willing to do it... but royal mail are setting there selves up on late delivery letters and packets during winter months... my round is on a rough estate and a no go area after dark. imagine how many posties will be robbed plus the dangers of trying to negotiate slippery frosty drives and getting hurt. at least in the daylight you can see the dangers. wonder if a risk assessment has been done? i'll tell you all it hasn't...
wolvesposty all great with me. That is unacceptable and the rules must have changes as I have used my own vehicle whilst supporting and when signing for mileage it mentioned insurance etc. Still not good anyway. Best of luck and hope things get better for all soon.
jb thanks for the response and hope you well also.... and no we wasnt covered under official business as i was scraped by a royal mail van. not much damage but never the less was told i shouldnt be loading in the bay and not covered!!!!!!
@ Maximas.
Ex postie, Ex rep?
If your nose gets any bigger, it'll start poking out of my laptop screen.
And 3 people have recommended your post!
Dear, oh dear.
anger this operating loss royal mail claim is misleading..... royal mail make majority of profits during september to january....you can massage figures to suit the situation. they are losing loads by not rehiring and getting to customers on time.... 1st class mail is ignored these days.parcels unless tracked are not going out most days when they should. only interested in premium products. giving evra parcels to deliver and then taking on amazon collections at a loss....put a stamp on a letter/parcel its put to the back of queue... tracked then its got to go.....mr T has created this for us to bow and take what he throws at us... every day is different.... ofcom need to see whats going on...
wolvesposty good to hear from you and I hope other than work everything is going well for you. I am fairly sure if you are on official business and claiming mileage you would have been covered under group insurance. Irrespective of that, its not good you didn't get the information at the outset when you and others were doing their best to support the business.
Its been a difficult few years and hopefully the business and all those that want to be part of it can move forward together but many major issues still to be resolved. Perhaps increasing the % for accepting some changes may help if these can be self funding.
No one has shared what the details of the 2% bonus aspect are i.e. what targets, timescales etc yet this has been dismissed as unachievable. Any scheme like this needs to be stretching but achievable cant just be about doing BAU activities.
I know that the vast majority of RMG employees are decent hard working people and generally reasonable. I think the vast majority on here accept that strikes will not help for the future, yes it may squeeze out a very small % in the short term paid by payroll savings on IA days and IMO doesn't feel like a win for anyone. Good luck and hopefully the business can get to a steadier place soon.
@ wolvesposty.
Thank you for that, but not needed.
You're doing the job. And can see the many problems going forward.
Personally, i'm not concerned about the money, it's what is proposed going forward that is concerning.
I still can't get my head around local parcel hubs. Are these meant to be delivering parcels? Late parcels? Why do you need to shift all staff start times later, if you already will have staff in post to capture these items?
