Beginning to see the impact of potential IA received an email from Moonpig outlinig how IA will disrupt their service and gives the dates and to order early. Mentions how their other service gifts etc are delivered by other companies and not an issue. I know many other companies will be making contingency plans.
Of course people have got to do what they think is right and will help their futures but driving customers away doesnt improve anything.
We could blame both sides for this but wont change the facts.
UK inflation up to 10.1% so everyone in the country will be feeling the pinch. Lets hope for better news if the high level meeting takes place.
Ispy, I totally agree that it's going to take more time. The only realistic option will be smaller rounds and more delivery staff? Quart in a pint pot and all that....
Sod the letters and untracked items, just deliver these on Mondays.....lol
@ RGPostie.
Doorstep collections have gone through the roof in my office, and drop offs into CSP's have reduced significantly.
We are now up to 2 yorks per day of consumer collections.
Factor in photo on delivery, deliver to neighbour or safeplace, and the time on delivery is increasing. With this not so new idea about bringing flat pack boxes to the customer, it will only increase that time.
I actually think that the whole collection on doorsteps is an absolute goldmine for RMG. But at the expense of letters and untracked packets. So everyone, and that includes the public, better get used to an even worse service than we provide now. Because there is no way that RMG will give you any more time, to perform what is now becoming a daily and time-consuming task.
@ katenip.
Monday 29th is an official holiday, and i'm working Saturday 27th. So i'm hardly striking over a bank holiday. Nor are any of my workmates in delivery.
Probably pointing out the bleeding obvious but isn’t it a weird coincidence that RMG and the blasted railway unions call strikes over the bank holidays….do they just fancy cheaper flights and longer hols?!
How can someone so old be so juvenile? Even if he is actually on a daily walk (which I doubt) for someone with such a high post count who is often the first daily comment at 6:30 in the morning, guaranteed he's got his phone with him refreshing this page every minute. It's his life. Poor guy.
The cutback in caller's hours is one of the few things that's gone through without anyone batting an eyelid, apart from the customers who want to drop stuff off . Ours is still open for six hours a day Tuesday-Friday but we used to be 10 hours a day and also late Saturdays and Sundays. It hasn't cost any jobs but a couple of people have lost out on S/A overtime and I've been relegated from the Callers to a delivery postie on Saturdays (bah!) but everyone affected has accepted it as, to be honest, there were times when it got boring in there.
Pre-pandemic we always had at least 1000 items waiting for collection or redelivery at any time, a constant queue of people collecting stuff etc. Now that's around 400-450 items on the shelf, and about half of those are surcharges which rarely get collected.
The only thing that doesn't make sense at our office is that we're no longer open on Sundays, despite the fact there's a postie there with nothing else to do so as we do Sunday deliveries and we need someone to act as supervisor and be in the office for any issues. It wouldn't cost the company a penny to reopen the Callers for four hours but we have no say locally these days. Some pen pusher in an office somewhere knows better than those of us in the middle of our communities. Probably the same team that came up with the idea of photographing every Tracked item on delivery and then wondering why productivity on deliveries is down 1.6% since that was brought in. Cos you're slowing us down you fools!
Perfect name for you Adolph the man with one ball. Sorry but I have to leave for walkies soon. Bye bye
So Angry and always going on about your left
B O L L O C K what happened to the other ADOLPH

As a relatively new investor (this is my first 12 months) this has been one of the best lessons that I’ve learned so far…you described me in a nutshell! I set all my stop losses at 15% of my original investment and in that time I’ve had some of them taken out in the run up to results or in some instances for no reason at all only for the price to bounce back up almost immediately.
I’m a lot more vigilant in my portfolio now. I manage it everyday and I adjust my stops according to how the market is reacting to news or hysteria. Most of my portfolio is in the red right now and all of them have been pushed to that 15% threshold only to magically bounce a few days later. You’re right it’s absolute nonsense but it’s never going to stop…..we must adapt and overcome!
Those that don't remember and learn a lesson from what preceded are novices.
But then of course you are just that, Novices.
Thanks RGPostie for the detailed info. My wife said one company BODEN werent charging you to return just sending you an adressed label and you then had to pay over the counter to return. So better paying for the postage online and having the collection for free saving a trip. Interesting re footfall into callers offices another sign of the times.
I guess any initiative to get more business is good if it pays for itself.
Jeesus Christmas, get over yourself redstripe. You're soooooo boring. Try staying on topic for once, and by that I mean not topics from years ago.
And, as an aside to my last post, bear in mind this is only the collection from your doorstep that's free. If retailers are charging people to return items that's between them and their customers. You can be assured that RM don't let them have postage for free and never have done!
The latest announcement is just another tinkering of prices. When the service first started RM charged 72p an item or 60p if it was an online return. They reduced the price a bit later, then had a period of a couple of months when it was free then put it back up to 72p although I seem to recall Tracked items were still free. Now they're saying free for everything, currently until 31st December.
It makes sense as they've cut Callers Office hours so much that people can't get down there to drop stuff off so they go to the Post Office which of course means the PO getting a cut of the price. If mail is dropped straight into the RM network we get to keep all the money.
Before the Caller Office hours were changed nationally I saw an email regarding the rationale behind it showing how many people per hour were collecting stuff based on our SPS system - it was true in that the number of people collecting items has gone right down as many rebook deliveries online now or notify us of safe places to leave things rather than have us take them back to the office. However, I don't think anyone in the decision making department thought of how many people drop stuff off at Callers Offices as we have no way of counting those. We get more of those than people collecting mail these days.
Maybe having free collections is a reaction to that.
Yes we knew well enough. One of many comments around that time. I haven't shown the sender and have deleted most text as that's old ground. The point is we foretold this a year ago.

So go back and coware behind the couch you hitting the sell button ‘because it’s going down again’
JB, You and I were on the ball last time around. Look back to our discussing movements and actions. When they were commencing their malarkey.
Same time as I was being told that I was talking nonsense. Nothing changes ;-)
ASharkz hope you are right but if any meeting has taken place with ST et a,l I imagine any next step would be a joint statement to say we have agreed to recommence talks and to cover xyz items, well hopefully that would be what they say and not zero progress and IA goes ahead.
The price movement is a bit odd and the other possibility is someone buying a few more?
Redceo that is true. With a bit more experience under our belts we may be just a bit better prepared this time.
JB, Not really so difficult. When we begin to relax and feel a bit more secure. BANG!
What a life, I've decided not to live beyond 105.
Redceo as you say they may just be waiting to pounce just like last time. As we have been saying for years now it is always difficult to understand their timing.
JB. You mention a lack of shorters, relax. They will arrive once the SP reaches a price where shorting is more beneficial.
Dynamo, I agree it would be an untouched level. One which I have no intention of experiencing. I'm really quite incredulous, are you seriously saying you have Never! heard such ? Hmm I think you are continuing to tell porkies.
JB
I can confirm if you buy any clothes from M&M Online, they put up a box to tick for a returns label to be included, and then when you checkout you'll notice they've charged you £2.49 for the 'privilege' of being able to use your own printer to print a label (no hard copy return labels sent).
I had no idea they had charged me for this until I checked out, as it was made to 'appear' like a normal free option. My bad for not checking the entire order confirmation but it was certainly misleading.
Other retailers are doing the same so returns volume is likely to drop off a bit.
All the best
