Wincanton shares dive after major contract loss and profit warning
Tue, 7th Mar 2023 10:52
(Alliance News) - Wincanton PLC on Tuesday lamented the loss of a major contract with UK HM Revenue & Customs and a more challenging backdrop moving forward, issuing a profit warning for financial 2024.
When transport stocks starting warning of slow down this year head take note maybe start hearing more from retailers none essential.I’ve had a couple good years now slow building some cash up especially as I can just get 3/.5 % rate just to keep it handy.I am been careful what I holding now as best I can.
not in here but had a look at what their comment was..this part caught my attention, in general ...
" Wincanton continues to expect a more challenging external environment in the coming financial year, including an accelerated reduction in consumer spending and customer volumes. "
More downward trend expected.
The lost contract is only one HMRC-base contract of many. As mentioned they have other HMRC/Gov based contracts.
It's likely that HMRC Et Al will look to rationalise the contracts and so possibly farm out the contracts to the new Logistics Supplier if they are undercutting etc.
In all likelyhood, it looks like Wincanton have gone in, improved a lot of the Customer Logistics, planning processes etc and now the Customer is saying Thanks for your help but we're giving away the contracts to our "Preferred" Suppliers (aka buddies).
Just another day of government shennagans eh :-(
I think (hope) so. It was certainly a shock! However plenty seem to be taking this as an opportunity, as I just have.
25% drop seems harsh. Over reaction?
This is very good news indeed for Wincanton. Will make things much easier for hauliers trading between Uk Ireland and EU as a whole. Grown up in Downing Street at last and not before time! Capt Birdseye!!!
Good volume yesterday.
A well run company with an increasingly chance of more military contracts this is very cheap price indeed. A p/e of 8 times earnings and div yield of 4% is not to be sniffed at.
Capt Birdseye!!!
Very strange and large trades in shares this afternoon? Whats going on? Predator in wings maybe? Who knows!
Capt Birdseye!!!
Sounds more like Wickes are struggling than good news for Wincanton. Doubt the margins are attractive.
Wincanton has been awarded a new four-year contract by Wickes that will extend and expand its mandate for the home improvement retailer.
The new contract, which spans warehouse and transport operations, will see Wincanton become the sole supply chain partner for Wickes’ kitchen and bathroom business in the UK.
Wincanton has worked with Wickes since 2017, expanding its services to cover the management of 50% of Wickes’ kitchen and bathroom transport operations. The new contract increases this to 100% of kitchen and bathroom deliveries.
As part of the contract, Wincanton will welcome 342 Wickes colleagues who have been transferred across, with Wincanton now responsible for the management of Wickes’ 400,000sq ft kitchen and bathroom distribution centres in Northampton.
Wincanton will also implement a continuous improvement and operational excellence programme to deliver 'significant' savings and support business growth for Wickes.
Wincanton wins Huda Beauty eCommerce contract
The three-year contract with Huda Beauty, one of the UK’s most popular beauty brands, will see Wincanton bring Huda Beauty’s eCommerce fulfilment operation to the UK for the first time. Huda Beauty’s direct-to-consumer supply-chain will be based out of Cygnia’s 211,000 sq ft warehouse in Northamptonshire. Cygnia will also manage Huda Beauty’s B2B fulfilment operations, providing stock to eight of the UK’s biggest retailers across the UK, including to Harrods, Boots and Selfridges.
Carl Moore, Managing Director of e-Fulfilment at the Wincanton Group, said:
We’re delighted to expand our reach further into the UK health, beauty and wellness retail sectors, and to work with another excellent brand with exciting plans in the UK. Using Wincanton’s goods to person robot enabled solution we are looking forward to increasing resilience and performance and improving customer proposition for Huda.
We look forward to supporting Huda through this next stage of their development in the UK by offering them a supply chain infrastructure capable of meeting their ambitions for this market.
Chloe Ennis, International Finance Director at Huda Beauty, said:
We are very excited to partner with Wincanton as a best-in-class service provider on the expansion of our distribution in the UK.
Profit taking after results. Strong recent performance.
Very nice half year results, good debt reduction and yet the SP barely moves.
Who is fixing the market? Volumes bought are far in excess of those sold.
Looks to be all positive news. Seems to be a well run outfit.
Good solid results
Agreed. But hasn't done much to the S/P yet.
Wonder why not?
