Given gas prices keep falling we can now see a steady move south. Fair value. 6 times 800m they say from continuing ops. So 4.8bn risked by 30% to 3.4bn. Plus 2.4 cash. Gives 5.8bn. This ignores upstream so add 0.75bnn. So 6.5bn is roughly fair value. Will buy when gas prices stabilise and mcap gets in the low 6s or high 5bn.
Every day Centrica buyback is nearly 1.5 million shares. can't understand who is the idiot selling this share
The anawer appears to be Yes
Yes, it bounced yesterday and drifted today, nice trading stock for last 2 year.
Buy volume today was 4 x Sell , yet it dropped.
Keep it tight, sell the tops and buy the lows.
You see my lasts post - 125 is a nice entrance for a bounce, though 115 would not surprise me.
Good luck
Share buybacks rarely benefit shareholders. They benefit directors who get higher bonuses from the improved financial ratios but shareholders are lucky if they emerge at break even. How much cash have you seen returned to your pocket? Don't hold your breath.
As for brokers - they have no more idea of future price movements than you or me. Anything they do or say is intended to boost their profits, not yours.
Solid business with no debts generating good profit and giving dividend, what else need from a utility company? I’m happy to top up at this level .

"We see scope for further cash return through share buyback, supported by further improvements that we anticipate in Centrica's net cash position to over £3.0bn by FY24," said Citi.
Citi also noted that market participants' main concern was on its underlying net cash position. However, it highlighted that these concerns were potentially "misplaced", as it said any adjustment for customer money should also be accompanied by receivables owed to Centrica - a net addition to the cash position.

But note they have raised SSE to a buy rating. SSE trades at 10 times future earnings whereas CNA only 4. I'll let you make of that what you will
How come a massive drop one broker saying a buy the other hold.
That's a good point Tep1
Thanks
So CNA experienced an approximate 400% share price increase from the 2020 COVID plunge lowpoint, the share price is Still Up over 30% over 1 year.
Will Thursday's results reverse the more recent SP declines..not sure on that one.
@mjallen - I wouldn't read too much into the daily share price. Its only a small volume of the float exchanged by day traders. Market cap in Jul-2022 was £4.7B and Market cap is currently £7.2B in Feb-2024. In this time they have bought roughly £0.72B of shares. During the buyback period a lower share price ensures more shares can be obtained for the money allotted and therefore better for investors.
@thankglan - Goldman are managing the buybacks until July. Its in their best interests to keep the share price down.
More than 9000 Auto-Trades today with the MM-rats trying to pin the SP down - for their coming big buys spree - then their big profits take later. Check their(MM-pigs) magic argorithim-nos , they're about, 348, 377, 487, 887 or 906 regularly as clock-work.
Might be a good idea to follow them?
If (expecting?) SP around £2 by July 1st would be nice
On paper Tep1 I expect not.
However they would if they were given to the BOD as share bonuses later on or alternatively used to buy out a renewable energy company in the future.
What I haven't seen is a substantial change in the share value directly as a result of these buybacks. The increase in value so far has been due to an increase in high profits from energy sales. Plus every other shareholding that I have has cancelled their buyback shares straight away. Warren Buffets view is that you own a higher percentage of the company without forking out more money. But is that the case here.

One of my relatives left school at 15 and ended up owning over 50 rental properties - all without a mortgage in the end.
Thank you Shab
Not bad for a child born in a slum tenement building with no bathroom who left school at 15 and took an electrical apprenticeship. Instead of the expected 5 O levels, 2 A" and a good chance of uni degree. I found hard graft more to my liking.
Sounds like you've done well for yourself congrats!
An 140 year old six bedroom detached Victorian Mansion-ete with solid walls that cost a fortune to keep warm unfortunately. Even after insulating the loft that is big enough for another 3 bedrooms and bathroom plus uprating the boiler to a more efficient one I would need £40K to cover the walls outside with insulation. And no I do not want to downsize. I worked hard to reach this level of home for the kids to all have a bedroom and ensuite facilities when they come to visit. Plus they get to inherit it tax free. And I would miss my home cinema.
4k pa?? You powering a mansion? I thought mine was high at 2.5k in a leaky old terrace
Do those shares matter now. The following statement from the 2023 results suggest they no longer count.
"Reflecting the above and a reduced share count due to share repurchases over the year, adjusted basic earnings per share (EPS) was 33.4p (2022: 34.9p). Statutory EPS was 70.6p (2022: 13.3p loss)."
Following the above purchase, Centrica plc holds 538,891,647 ordinary shares in treasury, and has 5,368,954,491 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
I still question the reason why the shares are being held in Treasury and my email to Investor relations still hasn't been answered. Good Divi though as it covers one quarter of my BG energy bill of 4K pa.
Share buyback continues until July 2024 - no new buy backs announced. Rather disappointing, expect sideways trading for the shares.
The market knows the share price is undervalued by approximately 50%
Ah I thought it was a new one since they highlighted it. Still a 30% div increase isn't too bad and glad to be wrong about the drop in share. Saw the early news punting the negative headline but seems market didn't care.
What a great job the CEO has done.
Total liabilities down by 10Bn!
