There needs to be an EGM to gain shareholder approval and after admin faffing about could take 3 months or more. The deal was made in $ and with £ going down in value a previous poster said the offer was now worth £1735. ie 1735 - 1672 = 63p dif. BUT as I said nothing to stop Counter bids from Apple, Google, Microsoft, Intel, Qualcomm ... Arm designs Chips in 95% of mobile phones, EpsG 43.5%, Margin 62.1% (Dec-16 Est) and hold £ 1 B Cash. What Apple ... are interested in is arm's work on IoT. If there is a bidding war the winning bid could be double Softbank's offer. Money for nothing?
When is this deal meant to be completed? I am not in ARM but can't understand why people would buy this share if the Softbank are offering £17 a share, and why shareholders wouldn't sell now.
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/jul/19/softbanks-takeover-of-arm-holdings-in-doubt Neil Campling, an analyst at Northern Trust Capital Markets, said Apple, Intel, Qualcomm, Microsoft and Google could emerge as rival bidders for ARM. “Softbank themselves did a poor job explaining the rationale on the conference call in our view and it seems to have been an opportunistic strike. Hopefully the bidding war will start soon!
Its a blind side try by Softbank.
I guess the only other logical bidder would be Intel, also today's exchange rates puts the soft bank deal at 1735p per share
Don't think the Govt can stop the bid, and it would appear they approve of it anyway. Just (quickly) glanced through Motley Fool arm Board (100 odd messages) - no mention of separate US or Far East offer but I still see no reason why they should not. Mostly -ve sentiment. As I said before, if there is a bidding War could see 30, but probably wishful thinking. Bol
hi Nige-w its said SOFTBANK has huge debt and just bought company in AMERICA will UK Govt. still let this go through
IoT (phrase invented by arm!) IS the next big thing in Computing. Don't know if this 5th Gen/ 6th Gen or whatever. One thing is consistent is that the next Gen is always bigger than the last. So, Microsoft, Apple, Google, IBM, Intel & Qualcom ... would all love to get hold of Arm yet it was a small Jap coy with loads of Debt that put in the offer. That is not a bad thing in that arm will remain independent - the rest are all competitors. I don't think there is anyway the Jap can stop counter offers and the Big Players are just preparing their Bids. ie Price now 1678, guaranteed 1700, winning Bid could be double this. If you hold this coy, Hold (Buy?), and take Selfies as your grin grows!
iN WHAT WAY ARE SHAREHOLDERS BEING PLAYED In what way are shareholders being played?
HI Guys, Do you think there is a chance of a counter bid ?
Stuart Chambers is playing you all like a piano...he did the same thing to another great British Company called Pilkington Glass, sold it to, guess who? The Japanese of course.. The fact that he will make nearly £700 thousand is a mere inconvenient fact....SoftBank has a rumoured £76 billion debt...there is no sentiment in business or the British Crown Jewels.
It says I cannot sign again- thought I had done it
I am hoping there will be a stock option as arm could be over 50% of softbank pretty soon
I dont get it, Softbank is supposed to PAY 17 when the deal is done, why would I sell mine for less ...
I'd sell now if you want to sell, its going to keep dropping off for a while until it reaches a more sensible level, probably not go up to £17
Hi guys, so, If i got this right, if I wanna sell @ 17£ i should wait until the deal is done ? till then, not guaranteed it will go back up there ? thanks

yAYE ! IM NUMBER 6000 :)
Not sure this can happen owing to regulatory rules. But it's the old rule is it not, find sound company with great growth potential. Maybe you can remember when you could fill your boots with them around the early 70 mark. Beats 2or4percent day drading I'm a warren buffet man myself. Find great companies lock in and reap the rewards
How long do any counter-bidders (if any) have to lock-in their counter offer? I have a lot of respect for Arm and genuinely believe £17 is low compared with future potential value - If it is to be sold though, I'd prefer it went to a big player who will understand it appropriately. I don't think Apple will bid because of Samsung and vice versa. Hopefully Intel are considering...
