" SLP in that same time has 5xbagged! Again crikey!"
-------------
Should have been:
SLP in that same time has almost 5x bagged! Again crikey!
Tiger - Small point but I wouldn't use the term inferior to describe JLP, after all before last spring both THS and JLP's SP performance to years further back were truly lacklustre in actual SP-wise poor returns. From last spring JLP has 8 x bagged! Crikey!
SLP in that same time has 5xbagged! Again crikey!
And THS has 3xbagged! Despite the lower return in SP performance a 3 bagger in less than a year is still worth of a - crikey!
I refuse to label JLP as inferior in any comparisons except if you want to limit the comparisons to assets in the ground only :)
As an investor/trader I never lose sight of who's bringing the bacon home in terms of SP appreciation. Before spring THS SP performance had been hmm no not dire... hmm - "unpleasantly undesirable" as was JLP's.
The most bagged SP over 6 years goes to only one of those 3 candidates - and as you know, you're posting from within it :) There are investors inhabiting this board who are in the fortunate position of holding stock that have 14xbagged for them to date. Some with even higher than that. All 3 are worthy.
Hi Gotreal!
JLP is a far inferior investment to SLP, for reasons that have been articulated many times on this board: dodgy and obscure RNSs, Colin Bird as Chairman, director sales of shares, Zambia risk (a big one, that), and so on and so forth.
A far better comparison for SLP would be with Tharisa (THS), which does have credible growth plans (as well as superb margins).
" Where are Sylvania's plans for growth...? Giving back cash is a sure sign of a company run out of ideas as to how to provide a better return through investing in growth. Have a look at the JLP price action recently and you will see the difference."
-------------
Thanks for the advice got eal, so I took it and looked at JLP price action" recently", as you recomended, but can only say, haven't you seen SLP's price action "recently" or is today's price action all you've looked at in SLP?
It was generous of you to advise looking at JP - thank you for the tip, so only good manners to offer you some friendly advice in return. And it's this:
Have you seen that JLP is massively overbought at the moment? I'd watch your back on JLP as that suggests a pullback in JLP's SP is imminent, temporarily hopefully.
If you see that, concur and are looking for another stock That's done just as well as JLP 'recently' but is not overbought may I ahem err... Recommend SLP as a temporary haven to protect your potential imminent loss in capital by remaining in JLP?
PS. JLP looks a good 'un but it's due a slap due to being overbought. Should only be temporary though :)
Buys outstripping sells rather comfortably today :)
CJ66, I agree - the only way I can comfortably invest money is by having at least some inkling of the company's ( or whatever ) underlying value. I've seen people make thousands from BCT, and trading stuff like GameStop. Both of those show how their value increases due to their, well, value increasing - if you know what I mean. As people see money being made they want a piece of it, which starts a chain reaction. I want to invest in something where the company is producing something tangible. I'm not knocking other investments in any way - it's just that this is my preferred approach. We've probably seen those companies that when you look at the twenty year chart you say "I wish I'd put just £500 in there and by now I'd be sitting on £XXXX" - well I believe that SLP are starting to follow that kind of pattern. I almost invested at £0.14 but ended up in at £0.33. It's done remarkably well since then and look where we are now. A special dividend, massive cash pile, great production figures and a slick operation. For me I hope SLP can continue on the same path that they are on for many more years.

...as usual the price goes down slightly with plenty of selling...but can't think why - results and near term commodity price forecasts almost as good and a lot more solid than a bitcoin in my old fashion view!!
I'm possibly expecting a break from tradition here today. Finish where we started perhaps? Over £1.21 would do nicely (for today).
:)

Liberum...
"Sylvania have declared a one-off windfall dividend of c.5.2 cents per share, 27% above our estimate of 4.1 cents. We expect a final dividend at the full year results of 4 cents, giving a combined yield of 6.4% in 2021. Sitting with $67m of cash and generating $155m of FCF at spot prices (35% FCF yield), with no major capex commitments, dividends look set to rise materially going forward. Basket prices hit a new record high today of c. R65,000/oz, and whilst this would normally make some investor nervous, we believe that the fundamentals for rhodium are solid on a three year view (see here). Top pick in mining."
3rd quarter results are going to be the stuff of legend :)
That said, February 28th...
sold about half of my SLP ISA holding at the start of last week, and parked it temporarily in JLP. Up about 25% since then. May shift some of it back once SLP has finished its usual drop on the good news, though both are very good companies.
All this stuff is new to me So I take it it is on all new transactions not retrospective? If retrospective I guess thats bad and price will fall otherwise not much impact?
OldHeb, in theory yes. But right up until the ex div date what is the company doing?
Printing cash. The SP will rise accordingly from hereon in, with a few twists and turns.
Buying in to qualify would be an odd thing to do given the share price will go down by 3.75p when it goes xd.
So funny, thank Velo! Chuckles in north London.
And I hope stoodio is right in the next few days...
XD on 4.3.21, so plenty of time to buy in to qualify.
4th March according to Bazzaman
Hi Curius!
Yes, you would get the special divi...
"a one-off Windfall Dividend of 3.75 pence per ordinary share, payable on 9 April 2021. Payment of the dividend will be made to shareholders on the register at the close of business on 5 March 2021 and the ex-dividend date is 4 March 2021."
Anyone know when the ex-divi date is?
Anyone know what the ex-dividend date is? If you're not invested, would you qualify if you buy shares now?
Tiger, agreed but happy as per my last :)
And that's just the pattern that plays out for the last decade :)
Wait a couple days for the sonic boom :)
And it's happening again! Why does this share always fall on results days? No matter how good the results are?
Hi Stoodio!
I'd go along with the thanks to the board and management. This is a very well-run and highly profitable company.
Results this morning more or less as expected - that is, excellent. We should also remember that they only include the period up to December 31st, and the rhodium and platinum prices only really took flight in January. So current trading should be even better.
My long term concerns (life of mine, next project, Samancor dependency) have not been answered in this morning's RNSs. But they can wait a bit more.
Rhodium at all time highs. Plat and Pall also holding firm and moving up...
What's not to like here? Future prospects? Absolutely, all in good time folks. I trust the board, here.
