Already got aload of retained capital which will rocket up tomorrow so if cannot see ways to invest it then buyback and special divi makes sense, shame really that business opportunities other than takeovers are limited fro management point of view but all good IMOA GLA
Hope you're right RockonUK I Can't decide if there will be any news on a buyback or special Divi or if that will be announced later in the year., but first things first, lets hope the fundamentals are ok! Fingers crossed and GLA.
Pru released very good results so sector will bounce as the same tomorrow when Aviva seclare results, the fact is alot more life insurance polocies for all in sector as people want protection for family in light of covid ie if one partner dies then other is more secure financially;
Ah! but, other companies are releasing the same old same old. Whatever our results say, I'm certain they won't be boring.
Every other result release in my portfolio this week made the SP go down, but as you say “sit back”.
We are about to go for a ride who knows the destination. Will it be bare knuckle or give us time to admire the scenery
Whatever the case sit back and make the most of it.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. had about £5k odd in tesco. They did their special dividend in a real awkward way. They gave us £1200 and took it off the share price with a share reduction. So we bought another £3k roughly. With the current dividend and special one - We are about £844 in the blue over £8k. So after a year of tough trading with covid costs and selling a £5 billion business we are 10% up on our investment. We had bought in at £2 and it got to £2.40 and we lost all that capital growth. See what it does in the future. Mixed opinion about it see if we get rewarded for holding on in there or should we have just dumped it and taken the growth. You can't win them all.
Dogs......Disagree with you there as I have been invested in RIO since the £11 level and it has had more than a couple of special dividends in that time. Share price performance has not been too shoddy either.
Investors who primarily buy stocks on speculation of special dividends or takeover s will never beat the market thats a sure thing
the dividend comes out of the share price ex divi day ie it goes down
Newcomers benefit existing holders by driving the price up. The divi is only split by the total number of shares which doesn't change readily, not by the number of individuals holding so you don't get less out of it as an existing holder if more people buy in, your shares go up in value AND you get the dividend. Win win.
It's difficult to know how this will be paid out - share buy back scheme - large once off dividend - or dividend spread over a few years
The latter will benefit new shareholders coming onto the register same as long those already on register at present -
Why should the Johnny come Latelys to the share register be allowed to benefit in this way
Only asking !!
Nervous:
Because car insurance is competitive and only a small part of the overall insurance market. I have had my business insurance through aviva for many years now. Not the cheapest, but by far the best quality offering considering they are covering commercial combined, product liablity, public liability, professional indemity, fleet vehicles, marine cargo..... the list goes on. This adds up to more than £30M of insurance every year with sizeable premiums. This market is all about quality not price and Aviva is a market leader. Private car insurance is a dog eat dog market and Aviva will compete if required.
GL and JMHO
"Interesting (for me at least) that Quotemehappy.com (Aviva Subsidary) came up cheapest (just) on both mine & my wives car insurance this morning.
Is that how they are going to maintain profits after sales of non-core, by growing UK market share by undercutting competition?
Well, it gets my vote :) Gladly paid the premiums (cue another spike in SP)"
As an Insurance Broker the average premiums for commercial risks are averaging 5 - 10% so there is growth out there. Remember the current CEO is really good so all looking positive and the Special div at the end of the year?
My take is that the new strategy is to reduce life insurance and focus on general. Ok with me.
SP continuing to rise.
Either it's in anticipation of next weeks results, or on the news of my top car insurance deals.

giddy up.
Bottom of the life Insurance sector risers this morning.
Agree Spikey. I do think we will have two great divi’sand a great special divi over next 12 months, but we may also see a surprise and either Aviva buyout Legal and General or Aviva gets bought out with 7 billion in the bank!??????
they have a stack of cash. i’m happy for them to take their time casting
eyes over possible developments that fit with their core focus … if
vendors try to force them to overpay, they can just hum & hah, bargain
slowly, then walk away and give a larger special divi if price ain’t right.
no rush.
aviva a peaceful enough share, would agree it should not be mega slice of
anyone’s overall portfolio, but in combination with nice spread of other investments
in other markets and sectors, it’s a nice little earner in a diversified portfolio.
Happy to be a Muppet who bought into AV just over a year ago- and happy to give new management a chance whilst negotiating covid and brexit and happy to take dividend whilst waiting!!!
Aviva need to get their finger out and make a decision. They know exactly what they have from their sales so how hard can it be to disseminate it whether it be by a Divi or share buy back.
What a steaming pile of capital destructive sxxt this is. Actually doing worse under this new douche bag than it did under Andy Biggs whos managing to crater the Phoenix share price now. You dividend muppets need to learn how to make proper money ( BUY USA GROWTH) you’d be better buying BTC than this sxxt.
