the licence to drill?
Moderate, Centre and Liberal isn't generally considered to be right wing.
What first licence would that be, Tintin?
I see that the Swede democrats got another seat cos they counted wrong. They also say that the 300,000 votes to come in from abroad on Wednesday tend to be more right wing (think ex-pats). The current make up is Social democrats and greens but with informal support of Left party.
Still, think that the moderates will reach "informal" support of Sweden democrats. the right wing alliance was in a coalition up to 2014 (when we got our first licence!). They will want to be back.
Should be and is a government issue whatever their colour since it's now generally accepted as being true. The earth has been a lot hotter than it is now and a lot colder, but that's not the point. The ice didn't melt over Europe until 13 thousand years ago and immigrants made their way up the Indus valley to the North....do things ever change? Lol i've always had a great affection for the IC engine and I'm wondering what we'll do with all the batteries that are going to be used up. :-(
Remember that great track from "Abba, The Album" - "Move On".
IMHO. DYOR. GLA.
Remember my quote some time back 'The Greens are just REDS that haven't ripened yet' Whilst I don't recall who said it I think it was a British Labour politician when 'Green' Politics were just about starting out. Clearly they (I think it was a he) thought at the time that potential eccoactivists should join the left leaning side of the Labour Party. It looks like that view has been Internationalized by the Swedes.
So here we are at the crossroads with some simple choices
- People or Reindeer ?
-Jobs or Trees ?
-vibrant economy or subsistence living ?
I have been told that the Swedish people are a colour lot BUT an interesting point is that whilst RED and GREEN are both vibrant lively colours when they are added together one gets a not very glamorous or appealing BROWN colour.
Interesting read that Tintin. Thanks for sharing.
A commentator on mining who is not in favour of the mine - his thoughts;
The election is over. It has been an election campaign where the démarche and promises have been many. A large part of these will probably prove to have 9.9.2018 as "best before date". myself, I think the most interesting thing has been to follow what it has not been talked about. In the areas I am most concerned with, this has been very clear. I thought it might be worth pointing out some of these "forgotten" but important issues, which will be important over the next four years. I'll start with the mines.
It is a string of gruvärenden that will be the subject of government decisions, sooner or later - kallak, northern swamps, Laver, kyrkberget, viscaria m FL. These cases run the whole width of all the issues linked to the balance between mines and other interests, such as the rennäring, the protection of valuable nature, the environmental risks and the view of socio-economic costs and revenues of mines. I have made some efforts to learn from the pollution about their views on these issues. The only party that has so far given any form of information is the left party who expressed scepticism against both the kallak and the laver. The other parties have not wanted to answer this question (I am waiting for answers from the greens).
All possible regeringsalternativ will be behind mineralstrategin, d v s to seek a rapid expansion of mining. In the only government decision in recent years on a permit for a mine, which was the case of the rönnbäcken in västerbotten, the decision was that the jobs that the mine was expected to give gave priority to the reindeer. My strong suspicion is that the forthcoming government in most of the cases in question will also say yes to the applications of the mining.
In view of the strong local resistance that exists against several of these projects, it is likely that this will be political issues that will characterise the coming years. In particular, the kallak has become a symbol of the ever-increasing conflicts between reindeer and different exploateringsintressen. If a new government says yes to kallak, despite the risk of the project, a shared local population and a clear no from the county board, this can lead to the greatest battle of Sami rights and environmental issues in many years.
At the end of September, the investigation on how to speed up the new mines will be speeded up. Here too, the silence of the parties is total about what changes you can imagine. Here I am, too, in the dark. There are reasons to pay attention when the investigation comes. I do not think it is easy to see how to speed up the process, but that this means reducing the cost of the process.
An investigation that has already been put forward at mine is about how the rules are to be tightened up so that there should be money to clean up after disused mines. It showed that today there may be a glitch of about four billion further in financial collater
Hi Andy. Agreed. I think 2018 would be an absolute bonus, the way things have gone so far, but also a must. Lol. Have to see what Kurt does, if anything, in the next few weeks. It is difficult to imagine things rolling for us without Beowulf pushing for it.
... won't be a part of the future government, and that is the most important outcome of this election.
But we're still waiting for the final votes, which will be counted on Wednesday, and I don't think we will be any wiser on the upcoming government for quite some time. Still, the Greenies almost collapsed all over the country, so yes, I believe we're moving closer and closer towards pay day :)
I've been through too many false dawns so my personal deadline is only "2018" this time.
Good points Bob.
Well peps the voting for the election may be over but given the balance in numbers the real politicking must just be starting!! No doubt there are many disagreements about lots of issues BUT one thing Kurt can focus the various parties on is INDUSTRY/JOBS and INVESTMENT! The only group NOT interested in these areas is guess who THE GREENS. There isn't many of them and they are a little overcooked!
So spread the work Kurt get the serious politicians agreeing that the time to get the mining industry, rail infra-structure and the local economies of the small towns going is NOW!
As our resident expert. What is your view? Are we any nearer to pay day?
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/sep/10/swedish-left-and-right-stake-claims-to-form-next-government
the same writer says "many suspect the Moderates in particular may not wait long to breach it (the non-co-operation with Sweden Democrats) - the "cordon sanitaire" is starting to fray...."
You don't need a majority Gov't in Sweden - you just have to show that another party can't do it - ie a minority Gov't (like here) - as long as it doesn't include the Greens we should be ok. So, another wait - but with the likelihood of a more positive Gov't supporting us.
Last paragraph, I was amending text and posted in error. It should have said "by a certain date and give it some" not "certand"...
Not sure what will happen with this after that election result. I take what you mean about continuity, but we are approaching five and a half years now and still awaiting a decision on our application. It can't be allowed to continue like this Sooz, no matter what the new make-up of Government. In view of this being a tricky election result, Kurt of course can't be responsible if the dust doesn't settle any time soon, but nor can he be expected to wait until whenever, for this to occur. He must press promptly, in my opinion, because the election is over, and although it was obviously used as a distraction, it shouldn't have been. We still remain without an official indication as to why the Government hasn't acted on our application, or even produced a date for concluding matters, following its receipt of all submissions from all parties many months ago. So the dust may not settle yet, because of this election result, and if it doesn't, Kurt must still plan to go in by a certand give it some. Not potentially wait months for any Swedish post-election jockeying. My thoughts today. Lol.
I wasn't persuaded, very early into his speech he used the word "solutions" and that sent a bit of a chill...
I listened to Jimmie....I've got some sympathy for anti immigration emotions but I
Those are fascinating statistics, Rick...too much for me to type but this one makes me smile:
Best Result (7.7%) for the MP (Green Party )was in Stockholm (where they might know less about nature than in the Northern Parts)
Worst Result (2.6%) in Vasternorreland where they probably know a lot. And another interesting one:
Best for the Left (14%) in Gothenburg and Worst (4%) in Skane County N & E.
Best for the Sweden Democrats (29%) in Skane County N & E and worst in Stockholm (9.8%).
Thanks Rick. So far as our application is concerned the politics shouldn't be a question but we know it has been....I've been thinking that continuity would have been the best thing for us. Kurt can get on to the government with "what about it then" but a new constellation could say what about what...and promise to have a look at that in due course. Well, back to the drawing board for now. And I hope I'm completely wrong.
Suzy. Sorry don't have that info-the list of MPs is for up to the elections. Info gained from the following link if any use. https://electionarium.com/swedish-election-2018-results/
General consensus is that Lofren will go. Sweden Dems should be king makers and whilst unaligned I assume their politics are more to the right than left. Some talk of new elections but I doubt this as someone will find a way to form a gov based on this election. Swedes have similar proportional rep system to Germany and how long did Merkel take to form a coalition?
as predicted (by moi) Greens now have 15 seats instead of 25. But if you look at BBC website;
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-45466174
you will see that the right alliance could easily form a Gov't with the implicit support of Sweden Democrats. No politician would ever refuse power on the grounds of ethics......
Morning Rickmeister..Did the MP have a representative in Jokkmokk, do you know? Thanks.
The Social Dems (Left) had their best result in Norrbotten and for the Mods (Right) it was their worst County. It is clear where the political preference is here despite the overall outcome. Battles yet to come I suspect. There will not be any change of tack re Kallak so far as the County is concerned so it is left with the Government-as yet to be decided-to determine
