Doncaster airport was not viable but the council continued to obstruct closure, why because they had no idea about commercial life and how to run a commercial enterprise.
Sounds like Sutton are dealing with a similar situation to Doncaster !
Where are the interim results which were promised for "early December"... are we likely to see these before Christmas?
If not, why not?
The times they are a changin Will be booming in Plymouth soon
Obviously not from the silence. Ah well.
There has been nothing on this board for 18 months. Is there anyone else out there that holds these. I actually live not too far from Plymouth so can see what is going on. The airport site is the key to getting any value out of this. I have been in SUH for 10 years and am pleased for the tick up from 28 to 34 but we had a haircut with the takeover so am sitting glumly
Clearly this event has been seriously mishandled, creating a deeply unnecessary public relations disaster. It reminds me very much of the Thomas Cook fiasco earlier this year - lessons urgently need to be learnt by SUH. To my relief I exited the last of my holding some time ago, their 'strategy' for realising the Former (ahem!) Airport Site's value appears unfit for purpose and hopelessly outmanoeuvred.
At least one head should roll over the concrete block. Despicable behaviour and a PR disaster. A resignation is in order.
Anybody holding shares in SHH should be concerned with their investment. Following an unfortunate incident at PLYMOUTH AIRPORT they have really shown themselves up as a bunch of amateurs who perhaps should not be trusted in decision making.
all's quiet on this board lately. not a sound of single key stroke or the click of a mouse to be heard ....
Thanks spindok !. Glad someone was astute enough to realise my post was tongue in cheek. We need more humour on these forums. I'm not in SUH anymore. I only had 1500 shares and more or less broke even on them, or maybe took a small loss. I still look in from time to time but don't have any opinion either way as to the future of this stock. Good luck to those who remain.
Love it..
I think it might be a good idea to have the airport back. We often used to go down there and watch the planes and write down their numbers in a book. Like what us plane spotters. We found it more exciting than the train spotting what we do now since the airport closed because the planes were bigger and faster then what the trains is. Anyway so we was thinking it would be good to get the airport re-opened. I don't know nothing about stocks and shares though, just planes and trains. So if your reading this and have invested in this then best of luck. Please contact the company and have them re-open the airport so we can spot the planes. Thanks,
Agreed, shed my last stock this past week. Clearly there's now no realistic hope of SUH exiting the airport site for remotely near its carrying value, which will significantly impact company valuation. I'm unconvinced that the core business can sustain this hit when it comes.
Sold out of this a few weeks ago because the council seem intent on re opening the airport. If they continue to go down this route then SUH will have to rid themselves of it. Will watch from the sidelines. Seems that Cornwalls biggest bus company has imploded today as well. Buy shares in bicycle shops..
In my opinion the problem with the air port site is that its an air port. We are living in an age where Britain has no planes on its aircraft carriers which clearly signals to me that the age of the air plane is over. Therefore I think the best think that SUH can do with the air port site is turn it into a massive skate park or a 1/4 mile drag strip. Of course that's just my opinion but come on, think about it, a 1/4 mile drag strip !!. I mean ... ... WOW !!!. I am Buchaneer. Also find me on LLOY, VOD, LGEN, FTO, WLFE, HSTN, OML and PAL.
It may be that a deal can be done between the local authority and SUH as a land swap or other concessions in which the airfield site can be returned to the local authority, in return for an opportunity of similar scale that will have the blessing of the council. The announcement, is hardly a surprise and I would have expected the SUH management to have been looking at contingencies. Is this news about the airfield likely to be fatal to SUH, I may be wrong but I don't think so.
Noted today that the city has released their draft local plan, to inform all planning policy through to 2031. Regarding the airport, as expected, it is stated: "1. Safeguarding the site of Plymouth airport to retain options for its future potential re-use as a general aviation airport, whilst at the same time strengthening links to Exeter and Bristol airports." Since closure SUH have been keen to discredit the possibility that this would happen, and now it has. Where is the exit strategy now? I'm nervous that they have put all their eggs in what looks like the wrong basket.
Personally, I think SUH would do well to look for an exit strategy, continuing to go against the Council regarding the airfield is likely to end up costing, as well as having the potential to cause a negative relationship with the local council. Had the development come off I don't doubt that SUH would have made considerable gains. The airfield itself is never likely to make mega bucks and probably wont see any commercial passenger traffic for a long time, however, the airfield still has a lot to offer within the general aviation scope but like any GA airfield its not going to be a money spinner, but will have local benefits.
The airport at Exeter is already operating. There simply is not the catchment for another new venture so near. One will need to fall on its sword. Airports are vital to an areas economic success but they require a lot of land for very little financial return in themselves. We must wait and see what is decided but if the council insist on it remaining then I agree it may be time for a sharp exit..
Once formally adopted in the city's planning strategy (which, viewing the evidence, looks inevitable) any alternate planning request is futile. They've wasted enough money on the redevelopment avenue which now appears irrevocably closed. It is however deeply concerning that SUH do not appear to have a 'plan B' for this situation. I'm told a group of local businessmen made an offer for the site as an airport some time ago, which SUH rejected. Perhaps time now to revisit and then concentrate on the waterfront.
Sounds like the council dont want to lose the airport facility, especially after the rail disruption at Dawlish when the sea wall collapsed, the problem is that if they keep knocking back planning permission for anything other than an airfield it will be horrendously expensive to challenge.
The airport needs to be sorted next...
See that the Plymouth Council have announced they intend to protect the airport site for aviation use in the new Plymouth Plan. This will prevent alternate redevelopment as SUH wish. Explains why recent announcements by SUH have been relatively muted on this front.
Thought progress was a bit slow when I read the rns but perhaps I have been a bit too critical. Arden seem fairly bullish about the future.. Time will tell..
Thanks for the update. Me and the girlfriend (that's you Liz !) were down in Poole (Dorset) recently and it's the same story there ... some very luxurious boats at anchor in the marina. My gut feel with SUH is that, as the economy picks up so will the share price. Meanwhile you might want to have a look at this : www.coraclesociety.org.uk :-). Hope you are well. Keep in touch. It's raining here in West Yorkshire today.
