'I would suggest that population growth is a greater threat to humanity than the planet heating up a few degrees.'
Too many individual agendas kicking in to hide the basic truth. Lets reduce petrol car use to reduce CO2 etc..result NOX goes up. Oh no, lets reduce diesel car use to reduce NOX etc.. Oh yes CO2 goes up, tinkering like this is not the answer.
Lets crush the car of the driver who breaks the laws. Result -another car needed to replace it with all the added pollution of its manufacture equal to the pollutants caused by burning its lifetime fuel. What a total waste and criminal attitude by the police. Double the life of the car reduces total car use pollutants by one third - work it out.
Halve the population what do you get - half the man made pollutants, earth still produces many natural pollutants.
Shall I rant on, no, it's too distasteful.
1969, Lubos Moti, Czech physicist: “It is now pretty clearly agreed that CO2 content [in the atmosphere] will rise 25% by 2000. This could increase the average temperature near the earth’s surface by 7 degrees Fahrenheit. This in turn could raise the level of the sea by 10 feet. Goodbye New York. Goodbye Washington, for that matter.”
There are myriads of crazy projections from Scientists:
Paul Ehrlich a professor of Stanford University in the 1970' gave a speech in the UK at The institute of Biolofy he claimed that the UK would be a group of impverished Islands full of Starning people by the year 2000, and may not even exist at all.
January 1970 Life Magazine “Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support …the following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution…by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half…”
Climate cooling was all the rage in the sixties.
I neither confirm or deny being convinced by either side. I am convinced that people who believe such ludicrous claims adhere to the cult like protestations of the sheep community with the fervour of a religion. I could write a book with all their preposterous 'sure things'.
Before you whinge about fossil fuels on an investment board of fossil fuels you need to get your facts straight and your brain out of the greenhouse.
I apologise to one and all for my off topic (HUR) response to the bleaters.
Nigwit,
I wonder how many Apple executives are flying around the world (or are they all video conferencing)? Also how are all those iPhones manufactured and transported, all at 0% carbon footprint? The offices and data centres are a good start, but way more to go!

your not very good at this de ramping lark are you,,,,, now was the time to pick me up on my spelling and grammar,....get a grip... im off to burn a few plastic bags in the garden

Nigwit and others, this debate has been aired to death and until Hurricane actually starts producing oil is probably totally irrelevant anyway. May i suggest that if people wish to continue talking about the carbon footprint that we move it to the Nanoco BB where NigWit mainly posts and clog that board up. As a starter for ten, nanoco's alleged secret partner is Apple who despite considerable effort to reduce its carbon footprint still is responsible for over 25M tonnes of CO2 and dwarfs anything currently produced by Hurricane!

I would suggest that population growth is a greater threat to humanity than the planet heating up a few degrees.
This site is mesmerizing, hard to take in. A bit like how big is the universe? And where did it all begin?
Anyway, 7.7 billion people are doing a crap every day and disposing of rubbish every and consuming food every day as well as that million barrels of oil every day.
None of it is going to affect this particular investment case in the near term. And why prostitute oneself for an O&G investment when there are so many green ones out there? Just sell up and move on. Either way, and this is directed at you NigWit, bore off.
.. think you may be a bit out there on that may want to ad 90 more,,, not sue there,,,,,,,,,, come on chap... only having a giggle with you,,,,, we all know if you want to save the planet,,, why are you here,,,,,,?? this ain the place for saving the world,,,, try another web site where you can preach to the converted,, chip up,,,,,,,,,,, its not the end of the world,,,oh,, it might be though,,, OMG your right,,,, ill gona sell my HUR right now,,, that will make a difference to the ice caps,,LOL
A million barrels of oil are burned every day. How would you feel about me setting light to one outside your front door? Should I call you a big sissy if you object?
Oil is finite,, when its all gone,, there will be no more, !!!,,,,,, besides, when the sun explodes..,,, we wont have to care too much about plastic bags, dolphins & the ice caps,, so stop being a big sissy
NigWit,
Please go and join Greenpeace and stop pretending to be an O&G investor as the hypocrisy is driving me mental.

No doubt that earth has warmed over the last century, the issue is why. There have been peaks and troughs of global warming, ice ages etc throught the existance of this planet, without any help from humans. There is a tentative correlation with warming and CO2 bit it seems the latter is lagging the former, suggesting that warming may be causing higher CO2.Why are you so certain ? The climate is dominated by the sun,CO2 is a minute component of the atmosphere and greenhouse gases. There are so many unknowns and much much more research is necessary. What is wrong with that ?
The theory is completely proven, there’s data from credible sources all over the internet. You’re talking utter tosh and wilfully blind to the obvious truth because it’s uncomfortable. That’s the problem with humanity. 300 years after the age of reason and enlightenment most still ignore hard data in favour of dogma and conspiracies driven by confirmation bias.
Still if that’s how you want to think you’re helping me make money on the markets.
How hot was your Easter?
You may well be right,or not.The thing is that the theory that CO2 emissions are causing global warming is not proven....yet The perceived solution is preventing 3rd world countries,eg Africa, from modernising their economies by making electricity far too expensive. It is a huge hammer to crack maybe a problem that cannot be cracked by humans
My guess is that a venn diagram of climate change deniers and brexit voters would be almost a circle. Prime gammon.
Tantalum, thanks for your input, one of the few, possibly the only post worth reading since the markets closed on Thursday and a bit of reality compared with the doomongers and deniers from either side of the debate.

Tales of Armageddon for the environment have generally been out, look at Al Gore documentary for a start. However, there is undeniably an issue and governments are now beginning to legislate. Thing is, until the EU says to China we will charge an environmental levy on your exports they will continue to pollute the hell out of the environment and European businesses will simply become more uncompetitive in relative terms.
China gas for a long time paid little or no heed to intellectual property, health and safety or the environment and it really needs countries to start taking a stand.
It has used this disregard to play its game of catch up and now run huge surpluses.
Still, so long as Germany can sell them cars they're not.likely to rock the boat much.
"Science told us in the 1990's that by 2020 temperatures would rise by 7 degrees and sea levels by 6 metres."
Utter nonsense. There were never any predictions of changes that big, that quick. You must have been watching the movies, not the documentary channel.
The protection of the natural world is to be applauded and indeed essential if our children are to survive. Nothing in the Universe is more important.
It is so important that we should be really sure that we are on the right page, with the correct facts and with a good - or better plan.
Climate change is an interesting theory, it may well be true. It is also possible that is irrelevant. I am immensely interested in the protection of the bio-diversity/habitats and factors that affect our planet. In 1972 I wrote a letter to the then PM highlighting the effects of pollution and the ongoing negative effects on ecology. At that point in time I was a voice in the silence.
People are indeed destroying the eco system and continue to do so.
Climate change is the battle cry of the virtue signalling politicians/industrialists that use it as a PR vehicle.
Science cannot with any certainty predict the weather 2 weeks in advance.
Science told us in the 1990's that by 2020 temperatures would rise by 7 degrees and sea levels by 6 metres.
Climate scientists are funded by green organisations that make their money from the fear of Climate change.
People are destroying the planet. It is not fossil fuels that are the principle instrument in this process.
Climate change has been going on since the big bang.
The models used by scientists are clearly unfit for purpose.
Bunkum.
Sipp,
No offence was meant. I'm being defensive. I've appreciated reading many of your posts on here. I am disappointed at your readiness to think the worst of someone just because they care about their environment.
ATB
Albi1 I thought you were disparaging me.
Sipp
"You arrived here recently with a very positive approach to Hurricane Energy but of late, your postings and motives have become quite suspect. A bit like your mate's."
Frankly I find it a bit suspect when free thinking is discouraged. I stand by the questions I pose, I believe they are relevant to all investors here. If you don't agree, fair enough, but no need to disparage me or anyone else in the process - or is there?!
Albi1
"Sipp, the great lover of wildlife that you are, I feel you're somewhat conflicted personally and I understand because I am in the same position. You can post what you like but you know what I'm saying."
I have no conflicts whatsoever with my investment. You arrived here recently with a very positive approach to Hurricane Energy but of late, your postings and motives have become quite suspect. A bit like your mate's.
