Greater Role For Gold
29 Jan '19
This article may be worth further investigation. In essence, it points to a greater role for Gold and, more particularly, the Russian state demand for Gold from domestic producers. As a slight aside, it's easy to forget that US Dollar accounts are cleared via the US. Something that has not been lost on China, Russia and Turkey. All major long-term buyers of Gold.

Agreed. If an SP wobbles at least a divi provides support and the sum invested is not just dead money as there is a div coming down the pipeline to compensate for the time invested even if there is no capital growth. It is more tempting to cut and run from a share drifting down if there is no dividend payable.

Yes, the dividend came through this afternoon. By the way, the number of private investors who do not appreciate the importance of dividends in terms of overall returns still surprises me.

With gold surging it does all look highly encouraging. Apple, Tesla and global equity markets can melt down tall they want

Gold price is extremely high now. This share price should be more than 150p now.

Today's news of the Valunisty acquisition might account for it, dewilliams - they're issuing another 38m odd shs in respect of it (an addition of some 12% to the float) but the deal looks decent to me, so should be beneficial longer term - sasa.

Nothing happened with the company. I was wondering is there any internal bad news or not. I was completely surprised about the share price yesterday which was just the day before the ex dividend. Today is ex dividend day but share price is rising. This clearly confirms that no bad news in the company!!

To bag a nice 5p dividend, although the SP will probably fall by that tomorrow but if you look at HGM as a long term investment with gold on the up & indices falling - Could be on a winner!

SP still going down
19 Dec '18
The strange behaviour continues on the last day before ex-div day. I have searched for news to determine the reason but can't find any. One of those anomalies, perhaps.

Good point. I was of the opinion that the SP would hit 150 today but with the drop it might fall short of that, maybe even far shorter, as the market is so down.

Yes can buy tomorrow. If this is short seller action, they may well cover to avoid paying the divvy.

A poor result
18 Dec '18
Well, that was a load of shite, today. Why the heavy volume? Why did the price drop on a divi-deadline day? The future is looking bleak, which usually sends the price of gold up… Now, the share price will fall by the dividend tomorrow, which is normal, but something is odd, although, these are odd times.

Strange
18 Dec '18
Very strange price action indeed. The joy of being Aim listed? Im buying more, the divvy puts other gold producers to shame, yet they are rising . Russia is far far more stable than many gold producing countries. Its just bias. Gold is rising, mine output is rising, lower oil to help costs , increase divvy a vote of confidence in company performance by directors, great free cash flow . Whats not to like?
