Shares in International Power climb over 5 percent following a report in the Independent on Sunday which said French utility GDF Suez is mulling a revised offer for the power station owner, including a cash element, after talks over a possible asset tie-up collapsed in January.
Evolution Securities analyst Lakis Athanasiou says GDF is interested in International Power because it would give it entry into the UK energy market and offer synergies with its US energy business.
'Even if no bid eventually materialises, bid speculation will remain and push International Power to value enhancements such as improved dividend payout,' Athanasiou says.

The FTSE Small Cap index gains 0.1 percent in early trade, underperforming both the blue chips and the midcaps, both up 0.8 percent.
Petards jumps more than 23 percent after the developer of security and surveillance systems says full-year pretax profit will be higher than market expectations.
BATM Advanced Communications sheds 7 percent after the technology firm posts full-year results, which Altium Securities says came in below its expectations, prompting the broker to cut its rating on the stock to 'hold' from 'buy'.
